Former President Barack Obama released a statement early Friday morning endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee, finally joining with the majority of Democratic politicians after days of reluctance.
“Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend @KamalaHarris. We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support. At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us,” said President Obama on X.
The announcement on X also came with a staged video of Vice President Harris receiving a call from the Obamas, where they express support for her campaign, and she thanks them profusely for their endorsement.
“Most of all, I just want to tell you that the words you have spoken and the friendship you have given over all these years mean more than I can express. So thank you both, it means so much. And we’re gonna have some fun with this too aren’t we,” said Harris.
After President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he would be leaving the presidential race and endorsed Harris as his replacement, Obama’s failure to concur with Biden’s endorsement led to speculation that Harris would not become the party’s nominee.
Obama’s silence on who he believed should run against Former President Donald Trump led some to speculate that, despite Harris receiving pledges from enough delegates to secure the nomination, she would be replaced during the Democratic National Convention with another candidate, possibly even Michelle Obama.
For years, some, particularly on the right, have believed that Michelle Obama would run for president despite her claims to the contrary, and Obama’s lack of endorsement for Harris fueled those theories.
As the DNC draws nearer without any Democratic candidates emerging to challenge Harris, it becomes increasingly likely that she will, ultimately, become the nominee.
Obama’s endorsement came just one day after the New York Post reported that the former president does not believe Kamala will be able to defeat Trump in November.
“Obama’s very upset because he knows she can’t win,” said the Post’s source, “Obama knows she’s just incompetent — the border czar who never visited the border, saying that all migrants should have health insurance. She cannot navigate the landmines that are ahead of her.”
Whether or not the source was honest or reliable, Obama’s announcement suggests that he did not want American voters to believe that Kamala would lose, because, even if he does think she is a poor candidate, her chances would only be harmed further if the public believed that a popular former Democratic president believed that she was incompetent.
Should Heels Up win, Barrak Hussein Obama will enjoy his fourth term as the president behind the curtain. Have not three terms done enough to destroy America?
Yawn!!!!! I wouldn’t exactly call this newsworthy.
Why is Oboma living in DC?. Every normal ex-president moved back to their home state.!
