Amid International Crises, White House Takes Aim at Common Consumer Grievances

The White House on Monday unveiled a new initiative, “Time Is Money,” aimed at reducing the burdens to Americans caused by excessive paperwork, long hold times, and other common consumer grievances.

The federal initiative to improve corporate customer service comes as a U.S. carrier group and a nuclear submarine head toward the Middle East, bracing for potential retaliation from Iran against Israel.

According to the administration, their plan will tackle what it calls “unnecessary headaches and hassles” that degrade the quality of life for Americans.

“Today, President Biden and Vice President Harris are launching ‘Time Is Money,’ a new government-wide effort to crack down on all the ways that corporations—through excessive paperwork, hold times, and general aggravation—add unnecessary headaches and hassles to people’s days and degrade their quality of life,” the White House said in a statement.

President Biden echoed this sentiment on social media, stating, “I’m tired of seeing hardworking Americans get played for suckers” in a post on X.

I’m tired of seeing hardworking Americans get played for suckers.

Today, I’m announcing a series of actions to crack down on how big corporations – through paperwork, hold times, and scams – add hassles to Americans’ daily lives.

Here are a few actions my Administration is…

The administration’s focus is on addressing everyday inconveniences such as long phone holds, the difficulty of canceling subscriptions or gym memberships, and “confusing and lengthy” forms. The White House outlined several steps it plans to take to combat these issues.

The White House didn’t say whether the initiative would address “headaches” caused by the IRS.

Among the measures highlighted was a proposed Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulation requiring companies to make canceling subscriptions as easy as signing up for them, though details on enforcement were not provided. The administration also lauded a new rule requiring airlines to provide immediate cash refunds for canceled flights, and an effort by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to push insurance companies toward improving customer service.

Additionally, the administration announced a new requirement for federal employee health benefits, allowing claims to be submitted online. Other measures include making it easier for consumers to reach a human customer service representative and curbing the use of ineffective customer service chatbots.

The White House’s initiative appears to be an effort to address the everyday concerns of Americans by leveraging federal authority to tackle minor inconveniences. However, it remains to be seen whether voters will prioritize these issues over more significant national concerns, such as the economy, immigration, and foreign policy challenges.

The administration also introduced an online portal for Americans to submit further complaints and suggestions about everyday frustrations, inviting more feedback on how the federal government can address these issues.

It is reasonable to assume that anyone working for the government could not locate their own ass if they bent over and used both hands. The lunacy on display from the federal government is an example of having too much time on their hands and nothing constructive to accomplish other than cash a paycheck on the backs of the common taxpayer.

Ask any fisherman about the paperwork they are required to fill out… Ask any business about the amount if government paperwork they are required to fill out.. Once again government is trying to solve a problem they created.

This reminds of the Paperwork Reduction Act in the 1970`s . I had to ask customers to sign a form indicating we were complying with the Act. The Act ADDED ANOTHER FOR TO MY WORK!!!

That’s how you take care of Americans. Normal Americans feel ignored. If President Biden is taking notice, that is terrific. America first last and always. I wish the MAGA GOP wing of the party would focus on real economic policy. Project 2025 is crazy isolationisr fascist garbage that will have inflation surging. If only MAGA GOP could handle facts, data and kindness. Shocking how mean they are for how deep in the sand their heads are buried. At least President Biden is working for average, normal Americans.
