Maine’s top newspapers offered short shrift Monday morning to the second apparent assassination attempt on former Republican President Donald Trump, an attempt that was foiled by U.S. Secret Service agents protecting the 2024 Republican nominee at one of his Florida golf courses.

As of Monday morning, the Bangor Daily News and the Portland Press Herald both featured local stories—including a piece about a dangerous intersection in Bangor and an in-depth investigation into the piping plover—while downplaying the attempt by suspected gunman Ryan W. Routh, 58, to gun down Trump at his golf course on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Maine Sen. Susan Collins (R), Rep. Jared Golden (CD2), and Republican CD2 candidate State Rep. Austin Theriault all issued statements Sunday evening:

I’m thankful President Trump is unharmed.

What an awful day for our country.

— Austin Theriault (@AustinTheriault) September 15, 2024

I’m glad former President Trump is unharmed and grateful to the Secret Service for their vigilance.

While there’s still much we don’t know as law enforcement conducts its investigation, we do know one thing: Political violence of any kind has no place in America.

— Congressman Jared Golden (@RepGolden) September 15, 2024

Trump issued a statement via Truth Social late Sunday night:

” Political violence of any kind has no place in America..” Does anyone else find it odd that all of the democrats include this very same line in their comments on the second assassination attempt on President Trump?

The Maine Wire is the only news source of news in Maine that does not favor the left wing in it’s reporting. The remaining news sources,Are no more than left wing rqgs that cater to the Demo/Communists. We do not all live in the environs of the coastal elite.

I have read that over the past several years most of the Maine papers have been quietly acquired by the various minions and corporations under the control of George Soros and his family. No, there is no point in looking to any of the large Maine dailies or weeklies for anything more than a heavy socialistic slant in their writing and what they choose to write about and what they intentionally ignore.
