A motor vehicle crash on Main Street in Westbrook on Tuesday that left one car flipped on its side led to the arrest of one of the drivers on drug trafficking charges, and the seizure of over 40 grams of cocaine.

The Westbrook Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene of the crash on Tuesday afternoon, at about 12:24 p.m., on Maine Street near Cumberland Street.

Police say that responding emergency crews found that two vehicles were involved in the crash, with one car flipped on its side. There were no injuries reported from the crash.

The crash is believed to have been caused by the driver of the car that ended up on its side, who police say was both distracted and speeding.

That driver, 31-year-old Brandon Steele of Westbrook, was found by police to be on probation. Police also discovered approximately 44 grams of cocaine in his vehicle.

Steele was arrested and charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

A probation hold was placed on him, and he is being held at the Cumberland County Jail.
