White House on Janet Mills: “The President won’t back down”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was asked Wednesday about Maine Gov. Janet Mills’ decision to defy federal civil rights law by forcing female athletes to compete against male athletes.

Leavitt reiterated President Trump’s commitment to enforcing federal civil rights laws, including his Executive Order requiring the protection of female-only spaces and female athletics.

“The Department of Education has sued the state of Maine,” said Leavitt. “As you know, there’s ongoing litigation. The President has made a commitment to ensure that states are being held accountable if they continue to allow men in women’s sports, which he believes is an egregious violation of taxpayer dollars. And so that fight continues, and the President won’t back down again.”

Karoline Leavitt asked about next steps in the White House's fight to defend female athletes against Governor Mills.

“This is a common sense policy,” said Leavitt, noting that 80 percent of American adults do not support forcing female athletes to compete against males.

Leavitt was likely referring to a January poll from New York Times / Ipsos that found just 21 percent of American adults support policies that allow men who identify as women to compete in women’s sporting events.

“The President will will stand by this commitment,” she said.

In her first comments to media since clashing with Trump at the White House, Maine Gov. Janet Mills also doubled-down on her decision to risk Maine’s federal funding by continuing to back the unpopular policy.

“We didn’t go in there to pick a fight or start an argument or anything of the sort,” said Mills, who had previously told Trump, “We’ll see you in court.”

“What I did was respond to some pretty offensive and aggressive statements he made about the state of Maine. It’s unfortunate that he chose to do that and to change the dialogue,” Mills said.

I’ve never accused Janet Mills of being the smartest kid in the class , but now that she’s surrounded by all her gay and lesbian sycophants, her George Soros funded pals , and her bobble headed party faithful , shes become completely unbearable .
I hope The New and Improved Dept of Justice brings the hammer down on our lunatic Augusta democrats . The “ real “ people of Maine ( not Janet’s immigrants ) WILL remember this on Election Day 2026 .
I AM CONFIDENT THEY WILL .

Mills from the start has been close minded about the facts, 79 % oppose boys in girls sports! These are young girls, 14,15 16 year olds, I had 3 girls in public schools, now I would pull them out and send them anywhere but a public school, Public school teachers are left wing nutjobs!! C’mon man!

Just another failure in the Maine state government to ensure our children are getting a solid education on level with the rest of the country. As we can plainly see by national standings, the drug and deviant lifestyle initiatives in this state have led to a crisis in the classroom, home life and now sports arena for Maine children. Mills and the gang need to be held accountable for the destruction of this state future. No wonder so many people home school their children even when SDUs are funding 24/ 25k per kid… it’s still failing because the policies are failed in construct.

In 1920 women won the right to vote. In 2025 women don’t have the right to keep men out of their locker room in maine. Whats wrong with this picture.

Just raise the property taxes to make up for all that lost revenue. PROBLEM SOLVED! But for gods sake, keep letting men and boys play on girls sports teams, share locker rooms, use the girls bathrooms, but DON’T GIVE IN!!!!!

Speaker Ryan Fecteau, on WGAN Wednesday AM spoke of “fear” caused to the family of the senior in high school who only last June competed as a male in pole vault. He provided no evidence of that fear. However, young women have fear when having to disrobe in front of transgenders with fully intact male genitalia, and that fear is held by young women all across Maine, what of their fear caused by speaker Fecteau and his fellow democrats in the Maine Legislature. Paula Scanlan, a former University of Pennsylvania swimmer and teammate of Thomas, a 6 foot 4 inch transgender, with fully intact male genitalia had nightmares of having to disrobe in front of Thomas 18 times a week. There are many other examples. Fecteau speaks without evidence of a family’s fear. Representative Christina Mitchell lied and testified at the censure that the family had received threats, BUT Cumberland PD Captain Mindy Coe has stated there are NO known threats. Democrats lie, turn the victimizer (the transgender) into the victim when it is all the women across Maine who are left wondering who may enter their locker room, bath room or shower; these women are the ones who have REAL fear, not that fabricated by Fecteau and Mitchell. If you have doubts on how permissive the transgender policy is, go to the South Portland pool locker room and read the sign on the door: “anyone can enter based on the gender with which they identify.” One day that sign will cause an incident; who will be the victim?

When God was handing out “Brains” Janet thought he said “Pains” and she said “I Don’t Want Any!”

She will go down as the worst Governor in Maine History! She has turned one of the most beautiful states in the country to a place nobody can afford to live or visit.

  16. DamDoc on March 6, 2025 9:03 AM

She shined her ass, and now it serves as a beacon butt sign.. Kick me HARD. Which trump will do, over and over again. She know not the wraith that she has chummed up.

“What I did was respond to some pretty offensive and aggressive statements he made about the state of Maine. It’s unfortunate that he chose to do that and to change the dialogue,” Mills said

The statements were not about the State of Maine, they were about you and your band of dirt ball democrats. And next time you need federal help… when the phone dont ring, you know it will be the trump administration.

Hows that budget working for you?

  18. Thomas Jefferson on March 6, 2025 3:14 PM

Martial law must be declared in Maine.

It’s the only way to save the State at this point.

  19. Steve Pond on March 6, 2025 6:07 PM

Mills and the Democrats all suffer from TDS, if Biden enforced title IX denying males in Girls sports they would support that

  20. Jim Means on March 8, 2025 6:53 PM

Bullshit Janet. You are a twisted, mentally ill liberal (oxymoron). Trump will win. MAGA!

  21. Jon on March 12, 2025 4:27 PM

Milss has corrupted Maine from the top to the very bowels of government! The Secretary of State Office is corrupted. The Maine AG office is corrupted.Even the Maine Superior Court is corrupt as heII!
Maine’s entire government must be disbanded and rebuilt from the ground up to save the state!
AND MILLS MUST BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE!
I believe in state’s rights, but I don’t tryst Maine to police their own when EVERY arm of this government is rotten to the core!
This is going to require Federal intervention, for the sake of the Republic! FBI, DOJ, ICE, needs to investigate Maine and rid it of the Mills & Democrat corruption!
