Lewiston Police on Monday night responded to a shots fired incident at an affordable housing complex that witnesses described as a drive-by shooting at a vehicle.

Police say they responded to the area of Rideout Avenue at about 9 p.m. on Monday for a report of gunshots heard in the area.

Upon arrival, police located several neighbors who reported hearing gunshots in the roadway.

Police were able to locate several shell casings in the street and found that one bullet had struck a nearby home.

Witness reported to police that a vehicle appeared to have shot at another vehicle departing from the Hillview Complex.

The Hillview Complex is a non-age restricted affordable housing complex at 77 Rideout Ave. which is overseen by Lewiston Municipal Housing Authority.

The public housing complex is the same location where a 17-year-old was shot and killed in July of last year, and has been the location of other shots fired incidents over the past year.

Police say it does not appear that anyone was struck by gunfire in the Monday incident and that they are continuing to investigate.
