Lewiston Police are investigating the second shooting incident in less than a week at the same public housing complex where a 17-year-old was found dead from gunshot wounds last week.

According to Lewiston Police, at about 9:40 p.m. on Friday, officers in the area of Sabattus Street reported hearing gunshots coming from the area of the Hillview public housing complex and Rideout Street.

Several witnesses on Rideout Street also reported hearing gunshots coming from the housing complex, police said.

Upon arrival, officers found at least one vehicle that had been struck by a bullet.

Police said on Saturday that they believe no one was injured in the shooting, but the investigation remains active.

No arrests were announced.

Hillview apartments is Lewiston’s largest non-age restricted public housing complex, and is overseen by the Lewiston municipal housing authority.

On Sunday, July 14, Lewiston Police responded to a 911 call for a report of shots fired at Hillview apartments, and found 17-year-old Sahal Muridi dead at the scene.

Friday’s shooting comes as the latest in a series of shots fired incidents being investigated by police in recent weeks.

Including the shooting that resulted in the death of Muridi, police have responded to four shots fired incidents in the last two weeks, three of which have occurred at the city’s public housing complexes.
