Man Accused of Firing Gun at Passing Vehicles Arrested After Standoff with Lewiston Police

A man accused of firing a gun at passing vehicles in Lewiston on Tuesday evening was arrested after a standoff with Lewiston Police.

According to Lewiston Police, officers responded to the area of Horton and Walnut Streets at about 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday due to reports of a male subject firing a gun at vehicles.

Officers arrived at the scene and the located the subject, later identified at 35-year-old Troy Blanchard.

Police say Blanchard had entered an unoccupied vehicle at the scene while still armed, leading police to secure the surrounding area and to begin de-escalation procedures.

A “lengthy standoff” between police and Blanchard concluded when officers used non-lethal force to remove Blanchard from the vehicle. He was taken into custody without injury.

Blanchard was charged with reckless conduct with a firearm, creating a police standoff, unlawful possession of a schedule W drug and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Police say that no one was injured during the incident and that their investigation remains active.
