A 26-year-old Farmington man is in custody following a domestic violence shooting that left a woman critically injured, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on Tuesday, the Franklin County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence on 513 Fairbanks Road in Farmington.

Farmington Police and Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies responded promptly to the scene.

The caller reported that the suspect had fled the residence on foot.

Law enforcement located and detained Gunthar Swan, 26, of Farmington, a short distance south of the residence.

The victim, a 29-year-old woman, was found inside the home with a serious gunshot wound to her face.

NorthStar Ambulance transported her to Maine Health Franklin Hospital, where she was subsequently airlifted by LifeFlight helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland for advanced treatment. As of Tuesday evening, her condition was reported as critical.

Swan has been charged with Attempted Murder and Domestic Violence Elevated Aggravated Assault.

Authorities described the incident as an isolated domestic violence altercation and stated there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details have not been released.
