Transient Man Accused of Assaulting Woman in Hermon Found by a K9 Named Memphis

Accused had nearly 20 bail conditions pending at time of arrest

A transient man out of jail on 19 sets of bail conditions was arrested on Monday after allegedly assaulting a woman in Hermon and fleeing into the woods.

According to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, shortly before 3 p.m. on Monday, deputies responded to the area of Ohio Street in Hermon for a report of a male subject assaulting a female.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies learned that the alleged assailant had fled into a nearby wooded area.

The Sheriff’s Office deployed K9 Memphis to the scene, who was able to successfully track down the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Joseph Crawford, a transient.

Crawford was arrested and was charged with domestic violence assault, refusing to submit to arrest and violating conditions of release.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Crawford had 19 active sets of bail at the time of his arrest.

He is now being held without bail at the Penobscot County Jail.
