Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is leaving the Democratic Party and writing that its betrayal led to former President Joe Biden dropping out of the 2024 election, according to a statement from Legacy Lit, who is publishing her upcoming book.
Jean-Pierre announced her new book โIndependent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Linesโ set to publish in October 2025 on Wednesday. The book, according to her publisher Legacy Lit, encourages Americans to โvote their values and maintain individuality within party lines.โ
โJean-Pierre didnโt come to her decision to be an Independent lightly. She has served two American presidents, Obama and Biden,โ the book description from Legacy Lit reads.
โIn 2020, she joined Bidenโs campaign as a senior adviser, becoming Harrisโs chief of staff and then, two years later, White House press secretary. She takes us through the three weeks that led to Bidenโs abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision,โ the statement continues. Jean-Pierre posted a video on Wednesday explaining her decision to write the book.
โIn an era of misinformation, disinformation, the regressiveness of social policy, what weโre seeing currently, right now, what I have decided to do, and I really have thought long and hard about this, is to follow my own compass. And thatโs what Iโve done, and thatโs what this book does,โ Jean-Pierre said in a statement.
โAnd hereโs the truth, and hereโs how I will lay it out to you. I think we need to stop thinking in boxes and think outside of our boxes, and not be so partisan. And the way that I see moving forward in this space that weโre in right now is if you are willing to stand side by side with me, regardless of your political โ how you identify politically, and as long as you respect the community that I belong to and vulnerable communities that I respect, I will be there with you. I will be, I will move forward with you,โ she continues.
During the Biden administration, Jean-Pierre defended the former presidentโs fitness as concerns about his declining state grew. Just weeks before Biden dropped out of the race, she decried videos of the former president looking lost and wandering off as โcheap fakes,โ claiming they were edited to make the 82-year-old look bad.
Jean-Pierre repeatedly assured reporters that Biden wouldnโt be pardoning his son Hunter Biden, only for the former president to eventually do the opposite. (RELATED: Here Are Times Biden, KJP Promised President Wouldnโt Pardon Hunter Before Breaking His Word)
โYou have said repeatedly yourself since the election and the president has said for months no pardon was coming. I wanted to ask you, could those statements now be seen as lies to the American people?โ one reporter asked Jean-Pierre after the pardon. โIs there really a credibility issue here now given this announcement?โ
โFirst of all, one of the things that the president always believes is to be truthful to the American people. That is something that he always truly believes,โ the former press secretary said, trying to defend her previous statements.
