Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is leaving the Democratic Party and writing that its betrayal led to former President Joe Biden dropping out of the 2024 election, according to a statement from Legacy Lit, who is publishing her upcoming book.

Jean-Pierre announced her new book โ€œIndependent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Linesโ€ set to publish in October 2025 on Wednesday. The book, according to her publisher Legacy Lit, encourages Americans to โ€œvote their values and maintain individuality within party lines.โ€

โ€œJean-Pierre didnโ€™t come to her decision to be an Independent lightly. She has served two American presidents, Obama and Biden,โ€ the book description from Legacy Lit reads.

โ€œIn 2020, she joined Bidenโ€™s campaign as a senior adviser, becoming Harrisโ€™s chief of staff and then, two years later, White House press secretary. She takes us through the three weeks that led to Bidenโ€™s abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision,โ€ the statement continues. (RELATED: CNN Host Confronts Nancy Pelosi Over Her Role In Biden Dropping Out)

Jean-Pierre posted a video on Wednesday explaining her decision to write the book.

โ€œIn an era of misinformation, disinformation, the regressiveness of social policy, what weโ€™re seeing currently, right now, what I have decided to do, and I really have thought long and hard about this, is to follow my own compass. And thatโ€™s what Iโ€™ve done, and thatโ€™s what this book does,โ€ Jean-Pierre said in a statement.

โ€œAnd hereโ€™s the truth, and hereโ€™s how I will lay it out to you. I think we need to stop thinking in boxes and think outside of our boxes, and not be so partisan. And the way that I see moving forward in this space that weโ€™re in right now is if you are willing to stand side by side with me, regardless of your political โ€” how you identify politically, and as long as you respect the community that I belong to and vulnerable communities that I respect, I will be there with you. I will be, I will move forward with you,โ€ she continues.

During the Biden administration, Jean-Pierre defended the former presidentโ€™s fitness as concerns about his declining state grew. Just weeks before Biden dropped out of the race, she decried videos of the former president looking lost and wandering off as โ€œcheap fakes,โ€ claiming they were edited to make the 82-year-old look bad.

WH Press Sec Karine Jean-Pierre en route to Angola:

Q: Could repeated pledges not to pardon Hunter now be seen as lies?

A: One of the things that the President always believes is to be truthful to the American people…He wrestled with it. It was not an easy decision to make.

Jean-Pierre repeatedly assured reporters that Biden wouldnโ€™t be pardoning his son Hunter Biden, only for the former president to eventually do the opposite. (RELATED: Here Are Times Biden, KJP Promised President Wouldnโ€™t Pardon Hunter Before Breaking His Word)

โ€œYou have said repeatedly yourself since the election and the president has said for months no pardon was coming. I wanted to ask you, could those statements now be seen as lies to the American people?โ€ one reporter asked Jean-Pierre after the pardon. โ€œIs there really a credibility issue here now given this announcement?โ€

โ€œFirst of all, one of the things that the president always believes is to be truthful to the American people. That is something that he always truly believes,โ€ the former press secretary said, trying to defend her previous statements.
