U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) in Maine is reporting a recent spike in apprehensions, including the removal of 42 illegal aliens out of the state for deportation proceedings.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) statistics, Maine’s Houlton Sector in April saw a record 113 migrant apprehensions, bringing the total apprehensions up to 357 in fiscal year 2025 to date — already surpassing the totals from the previous three years.

Following the record-breaking number of arrests in April, USBP Houlton Sector is reporting continuing elevated numbers of apprehensions.

On Friday May 23, Houlton Sector, in coordination with other Department of Homeland Security agencies, transported 42 detained illegal aliens on a single flight from Presque Isle to Detroit for further removal proceedings.

“Houlton Sector Border Patrol Agents work tirelessly to keep our nation and communities secure,” said Acting Houlton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Christopher Kuhn last Friday.

“The rise in apprehensions over the course of this year reflects the hard work credited to the men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol in carrying out national security priorities with inter-agency partners,” Kuhn said. “This flight demonstrates those partnerships in action to ensure that individuals illegally present in the U.S. are apprehended and repatriated to their country of origin.”

Maine has also seen a number of arrests of illegal alien gang members in recent months.

Last week, USBP Houlton Sector announced that they had arrested an illegal alien from El Salvador wanted by Interpol for murder. The Salvadoran illegal was also a confirmed member of the street gang and designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) MS-13, according to USBP.

An illegal alien arrested by Border Patrol late last year near Old Orchard Beach was found to be a member of Tren de Aragua and was deported to Ecuador in March.

In April, another Tren de Aragua member was arrested in Maine for theft.
