Questions remain as New Hampshire State and local police remain closed-lipped after someone was shot multiple times in a Sanbornton, NH home, with no arrests made and none of the involved parties named.

The NH State Police issued a press release about the Monday shooting on Thursday, providing remarkably few details on an incident that warranted involvement from their Major Crimes Unit and left someone hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.

Law enforcement revealed that the investigation remains ongoing, with the Major Crimes Unit assisting the local police department.

The reported shooting took place on Monday night at 502 Stage Road, with one person sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to the local Franklin Hospital before being taken by helicopter for treatment to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. He is expected to survive his injuries.

Law enforcement believe that they have identified all involved individuals, and said that they are cooperating, though, notably, no arrests have been made and police have thus far refused to name the shooting victim or anyone else involved.

The lack of any arrests could suggest an accidental shooting, though the victim sustaining multiple gunshot wounds makes that appear less likely, or it could indicate a potential self-defense shooting.

Sanbornton Police Chief Steve Hankard issued his own statement, which also provided few details, but seemed to reveal more information than the State Police’s statement.

According to Hankard, the man who lives at the house, who he did not name, remains uninjured, suggesting that he was not the shooting victim.

“I am happy to say that there were no fatalities in this incident. Many have been concerned about the gentleman that lives there and is often seen waving from the porch. He is fine and will probably be out there today. Due to the investigation and privacy for the family, I will not be giving out any other details,” said Hankard.

He also claimed that the incident was the result of a “domestic issue.”

“There has been a great deal of speculation and concern about the police presence on Stage Road yesterday. On Monday night, Sanbornton units responded to a domestic issue at the house, in which there was a shooting. The situation was quickly made safe and there was never any threat to the area or public,” added Hankard.
