A man has been arrested on aggravated assault charges after allegedly stabbing a 21-year-old in the neck outside of a homeless shelter in Portland.
According to Portland Police, at about 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, officers responded to 38 Preble St. for a report of a stabbing.
38 Preble St. is the address of the Joe Kreisler Teen Shelter, a emergency overnight homeless shelter for youth ages 12 through 20 run by the nonprofit Preble Street.
Police say officers at the scene found a 21-year-old male suffering from a stab wound to the neck.
The victim was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
According to witnesses, there was an altercation that led to the stabbing, after which the suspect fled the area.
Although police were unable to immediately locate the suspect, they posted images from surveillance video of the incident to their Facebook page on July 7, leading to several tips from the public and identification of the suspect.
The suspect, identified by police as 42-year-old Hector Roman of Portland, was arrested on Tuesday, July 8, after allegedly attempting to flee on foot from officers.

Roman is charged with elevated aggravated assault and aggravated assault. He is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail.
