Troopers Investigating Fatal Hit-and-Run in Albion That Left Child Dead, Two Injured

The Maine State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash in Albion that left one child dead, and another minor and an adult with serious injuries.

On Friday, July 11, at about 5:12 p.m., Maine State Police from the Central Field Troop responded to a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash near 60 Hussey Hill Road in Albion.

Authorities report that a vehicle struck one adult and two minor children before fleeing the scene.

The adult victim, 33-year-old Mollie Egold of Albion, was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries and remains in stable condition. One of the minors was also airlifted and is in critical condition. The second minor was pronounced dead at the scene.

Through their investigation, troopers identified and located the suspect vehicle, a white 2016 Hyundai Veloster, and its operator, 44-year-old Benjamin Lancaster of Albion.

Lancaster was arrested and taken to Kennebec County Jail, facing charges of operating under the influence causing death, operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury (two counts), leaving the scene of an accident causing death, and leaving the scene of an accident causing serious bodily injury (two counts).

Maine State Police are continuing their investigation and are seeking video footage or surveillance from Hussey Road or Main Street in Albion between 5:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on July 11, involving a white vehicle matching the description.
