A Rockland minor is facing felony charges following a Tuesday arrest for allegedly assaulting, strangling, and robbing a man as part of a larger altercation involving multiple individuals.

Rockland Police officers responded to the area of Willow Street following reports of an assault in the area involving several people.

Police interviewed several people involved in the altercation along with third-party witnesses, and learned that a juvenile offender allegedly attacked a victim, attempted to strangle him, and damaged and stole some of his property.

Officers located the juvenile and arrested him without incident. They charged him with felony aggravated assault, robbery, and criminal mischief. The minor was transported to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, the state’s only juvenile detention center.

The Rockland Police clarified that the alleged assault was not a random incident, and that the juvenile and victim were well acquainted prior to the incident. Many of the individuals involved also had prior contact. That prior association is believed to have contributed to the incident, though they did not explain what caused the altercation.

The Juvenile Community Corrections Officer (JCCO) contributed to the investigation of the case.
