At around 12:30 a.m. Lucas Matt, 30, of Sanford, allegedly drove a commercial truck into an apartment building on Oxford Street.

The Sanford Police Department told Maine’s Total Coverage that the crash caused damage to trees, along with the building’s siding and window air conditioning units. The building is believed to remain structurally sound.

After the crash, Matt reportedly attempted to flee. His flight was unsuccessful, and he was taken into custody.

Police did not release information on the cause of the crash, and there appears to be no indication that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Matt is facing charges for violating conditions of release, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and aggravated driving to endanger.

The driver appears to have a history of smashing trucks into things.

In 2021, he was arrested and charged with aggravated criminal mischief after he allegedly rammed a truck through the gates of the Sewerage District facility on Gavel Rd, causing $4,000 in damages.
