Bowdoin College cancelled a vigil for Charlie Kirk scheduled for Sunday evening in a campus-wide email that said the Maine State Police had warned the elite liberal arts college of “external” threats made against the event, hosted by the Bowdoin College Conservatives.
“In the past 15 minutes, we were informed by the Maine State Police of external threats connected to the event,” a Bowdoin College security officials said in an urgent all-campus email. “While details remain limited, the information we received is credible enough to require us to take immediate precautionary steps.”
Maine State Police Spokeswoman Shannon Moss has not responded to inquiries asking about the nature of the threat information communicated to Bowdoin College.
Several hours after the Maine Wire first inquired with Moss, we obtained a response Moss had provided to a separate media outlet, The College Fix.
“The Maine Information Analysis Center (MIAC) received an anonymous report about a potential threat related to the vigil. While they were unable to validate the information, they immediately notified Bowdoin College,” Moss said in the email.
The Maine Wire has submitted a Freedom of Access Act request to the Maine State Police seeking all communications between the law enforcement agency and Bowdoin College on Sunday.
Zak Asplin-Mounter, the head of the Bowdoin College Conservatives, responded on X to the cancellation of the event.
“I am appalled by what continues to be a college hell bent on oppressing conservatives,” said Asplin-Mounter.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
