The Westbrook Police Department arrested a homeless man on Thursday after reports of a string of vehicle burglaries.

Their investigation led officers to believe that the suspect was somewhere on Eisenhower Drive. They arrived and discovered the homeless suspect, Michael Blackwell, 43.

Blackwell reportedly attempted to flee from officers on foot, prompting police to set up a perimeter around the area.

Officers located and arrested Blackwell quickly after his failed escape attempt.

He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail and faces theft charges related to several car burglaries.

As a result of the investigation, police were able to recover some of the items stolen from the vehicles.

The Westbrook Police Department reminded residents that the town has seen a wave of car burglaries in recent weeks, but that all have involved cars left unlocked overnight, and urged people to keep their vehicles locked.
