The Maine State Police discovered human remains on Tuesday while searching for a missing person in Clinton.

At around 11:30 a.m., state troopers were assisting Clinton police when they found human remains in a field off Route 100 in Clinton.
State police did not specify whether the remains are believed to be those of the missing person.
The remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for an autopsy to determine the cause of death and the identity of the remains.
The state police said that no additional information is currently being released.
Within two hours of the remains being discovered, the Clinton Police Department issued a notice informing residents of a heavy law enforcement presence in town due to a joint operation with the State Police.
They assured the public that there is no ongoing risk and stated that no further information would be released at this time.
It is not clear whether the Clinton Police statement is related to the discovery of human remains.
The Maine Wire reached out by phone to the Clinton Police Department and left a message, but the police department did not respond immediately.
