Dale Sanders has reclaimed his title as the oldest hiker to complete the 2,193-mile Appalachian Trail.
Sanders, 91, who started the grueling hike September 6 in West Virginia, finished Monday at Maine’s highest peak.
Atop Mount Katahdin in Millinocket, Maine, he paused to pray at the sign marking the summit.
“I had to thank God, and I had to thank my support team and everybody that got me here,” he said, as quoted by The Associated Press.
Sanders, from Tennessee, first set the record nine years ago.
But five years ago, his 83-year-old friend M.J. Eberhart took the title, according to AP.
But within months, Sanders announced his comeback plan.
