A suspect led Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Deputies on a chase across Turner, Lewiston, and Auburn on Tuesday, smashing into police cruisers and incurring a long list of charges.

At around 1:15 a.m., an Androscoggin deputy noticed a suspicious vehicle with apparent defects traveling on Conant Road in Turner. After following the vehicle, the deputy initiated a traffic stop on Airport Road, also in Turner.

The driver, Daniel M. Jackson, 44, stopped but allegedly provided false identification and acted confrontationally towards deputies.

A supervisor arrived to assist with the situation.

While speaking with Jackson, deputies came to believe that he was impaired due to illegal drug use and ordered him to exit his vehicle.

Jackson reportedly refused to comply with repeated verbal commands and attempted to flee.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, he intentionally rammed two cruisers while escaping and fled.

Deputies began pursuing Jackson, who traveled through the outer roads of Turner, Auburn, and Lewiston.

Law enforcement eventually deployed road spikes and deflated Jackson’s tires, disabling the vehicle.

Even after his vehicle was disabled, Jackson allegedly continued to attempt to escape. He reportedly left his vehicle and tried to flee on foot before he was quickly apprehended.

He was transported to a local hospital, where he allegedly admitted to ingesting a significant amount of illegal drugs.

From the hospital, deputies transported him to the Androscoggin County Jail. During transit, Jackson allegedly smashed a window in the cruiser and attempted another escape but was quickly apprehended in the jail parking lot.

He faces a slew of charges, including:

  • • Operating Without a License – Class E
  • • Aggravated Criminal Mischief (3 counts) – Class C
  • • Refusing to Submit to Arrest – Class D
  • • Eluding an Officer – Class C
  • • Driving to Endanger – Class E
  • • Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon – Class C
  • • Criminal Speed – Class E
  • • Failing to Provide Correct Name/Date of Birth – Class E
  • • Escape – Class D
  • • Violating Conditions of Release (8 counts) – Class E

The Lewiston Police Department, Auburn Police Department, Lisbon Police Department, Maine State Police, and the Lewiston Fire Department all assisted during the incident.
