Elon Musk is preparing to put the financial power of the world’s largest personal fortune behind Republican candidates ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
America PAC, the super PAC founded and primarily funded by Musk, is reportedly planning to spend between $100 million and $120 million on an expansive voter-turnout operation designed to help Republicans maintain control of Congress.
The planned effort would represent one of the largest outside political spending campaigns of the election cycle and mark Musk’s return as a major force in Republican politics following a brief retreat from political involvement.
Rather than directing most of the money toward traditional television advertisements, America PAC reportedly intends to focus heavily on the ground game, including door-to-door canvassing, digital advertisements, direct mail, voter registration and early-voting programs.
The organization is expected to operate in at least eight states with competitive U.S. Senate or House races, according to reports published this week.
America PAC confirmed that it was preparing a major turnout effort but has not publicly released a complete list of the races or states it intends to target.
The proposed operation comes as Republicans seek to defend narrow congressional majorities during an election that will determine control of the House and Senate for the final two years of President Donald Trump’s second term.
Historically, the president’s political party often loses seats during midterm elections, making voter turnout a central concern for Republican strategists.
Musk’s financial involvement could give the party a substantial advantage in identifying and mobilizing conservative voters who do not regularly participate in midterm elections.
Federal campaign finance filings show that America PAC has already spent approximately $52.3 million since January 2025 while raising roughly $50.3 million, with nearly all of that money coming from Musk. Musk has personally contributed more than $85 million to political organizations during the current election cycle.
As a super PAC, America PAC may accept unlimited contributions from individuals and corporations, though federal law prohibits the organization from directly coordinating most of its spending with candidates or their official campaigns.
Musk founded America PAC during the 2024 presidential election, when the organization built a large-scale canvassing operation to help elect Trump and other Republican candidates.
Federal filings later showed that Musk spent approximately $259 million supporting Trump and allied political organizations during the 2024 election, making him one of the largest individual political donors in American history.
The PAC’s 2024 strategy relied heavily on paid canvassers tasked with identifying likely Trump supporters and encouraging them to vote in battleground states.
That operation was not without controversy. Reuters reported shortly before the 2024 election that America PAC struggled to meet some of its door-knocking goals and investigated allegations that certain canvassers had exaggerated the number of voters they contacted.
Despite those difficulties, Republican officials credited Musk’s organization with helping build the voter-turnout infrastructure that contributed to Trump’s victory and Republican control of Congress.
Musk later said he intended to reduce his involvement in politics after facing criticism and business backlash connected to his support for Trump. His relationship with the president also deteriorated publicly during a dispute over federal spending and economic policy.
The two men have since repaired at least part of that relationship, and Musk has begun directing significant resources toward Republican political efforts once again.
America PAC’s latest initiative will reportedly concentrate on persuading conservative voters to register, vote early and participate in congressional elections that traditionally receive less attention than presidential contests.
The $100 million-plus commitment would place Musk at the center of the Republican Party’s midterm strategy and could substantially expand the party’s ability to reach voters in closely divided states and congressional districts.
It would also further demonstrate the growing role of billionaires and independently funded political organizations in American elections.
America PAC has not yet disclosed precisely how much it will spend in each race, and the final total could change as the November elections approach.
But with control of Congress potentially hinging on a small number of competitive races, Musk appears prepared to make another massive financial bet on Republican candidates and on the ability of an aggressive voter-turnout operation to overcome the political headwinds traditionally facing a president’s party during the midterms.
