“This arrest highlights the strength of coordinated law-enforcement. When federal, state, and local agencies unite, as we did with our partners in Massachusetts and Maine, we send a clear message that there is no safe haven for violent fugitives,” said District of Maine Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Josh Taylor.
Dominique Bailey allegedly strangled a five-year-old household member in Peabody, Massachusetts, stole the child’s mother’s car, and fled.
Several weeks ago, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department discovered the stolen vehicle, suggesting that Bailey was staying in Maine.
The Marshal Service district of Massachusetts informed the Maine Violent Offender Task Force, led by the Marshals, that they believed Bailey was staying with known associates in Maine.
The investigation led law enforcement to a residence in Lewiston. They mounted a raid on the residence, forced entry, and took Bailey into custody on Tuesday.
He faces charges as a fugitive from justice and for three counts of assault and battery on a family or household member, as well as strangulation or suffocation.
At the time of the alleged strangulation, Bailey was out on probation in Maine following a robbery conviction and also faced Maine charges for probation violation.
He is currently awaiting extradition to Massachusetts.
