Deputies responded to a residence on Route 9 in Clifton at approximately 5:15 a.m. after reports of a domestic violence situation in which the victim was allegedly threatened with a firearm.
The Sheriff’s Department deployed an “appropriate level of resources” to establish a secure perimeter required to safeguard the area, protect local residents and nearby drivers.
After law enforcement established the perimeter, the victim was able to safely exit the residence and was not harmed.
Sheriff’s Department Crisis Negotiators and the Special Response Team then began a process that led to several hours’ worth of negotiations with the armed suspect, who eventually surrendered peacefully.
Police arrested Michael Olsen, 71, of Clifton, and charged him with domestic violence and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
He was transported to the Penobscot County Jail, where he is currently held.
