If the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) truly rules, then Maine GOP gubernatorial candidate Bobby Charles can already start his general-election campaign for the Blaine House.

On the Democrat side, Shenna Bellows can start plating her general campaign, according to X.

First, the Republicans:

On the basis of followers showing on X’s platform, Charles is way ahead of the pack, with 4,101 followers.

Robert Wessels comes in second, with 3,524 fans.

David Jones claims 433 followers while Owen McCarthy is showing 398.

Jonathan Bush is way back with 133, while Jim Libby is second-to-last with 76.

Ben Midgeley’s paltry 64 brings up the rear.

On the Democrat side, Bellows leads her party’s gubernatorial hopefuls with 7,989 followers, but those numbers are partly influenced by her listing herself as secretary of state.

Troy Jackson is No. 2, with 2,837.

Hannah Pingree shows 2,395 backing her.

Unlike Bellows, who uses her current office for publicity on X, Pingree does not show that she is a former Maine House speaker.

An anemic 366 follow Angus King III.

Bear in mind that many Dems virtue-signal by using BlueSky instead of X because of their distaste for Elon Musk. Talk about a rarified echo chamber…

The good news those training in X followers today is that primaries are still more than seven months away.
