The former mail carrier, Shannon Littlefield, 29, of Farmingdale, worked at the Auburn Post Office from May 2016 through March 2025.
Earlier this year, surveillance cameras caught Littlefield removing mail from bins and hiding it under her clothing on three separate occasions.
The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General questioned Littlefield about the incidents, and she admitted that she had been stealing mail for about eight months and that she had been opening greeting cards and stealing cash or gift cards contained within.
She pleaded guilty in the U.S. District Court in Portland to theft of mail by a postal employee. She faces a maximum of five years of imprisonment and fines of up to $250,000, with up to three years of supervised release.
