Out of Control! Dixmont Man Goes on Rampage Attacking Friends and Family with a Bat and Firearm

A Dixmont man is facing attempted murder charges following a Friday rampage in which he allegedly attacked his friends and family with a bat and a firearm.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., the Penobscot County Regional Communications Center received a call reporting an “out of control” man recklessly discharging a firearm on Masonic Road in Dixmont.

The Penobscot Sheriff’s Department deployed an “appropriate level of resources” in response to the situation and detained the suspect, Caleb Springer, 25, of Dixmont.

After detaining Springer, deputies launched an investigation and identified three alleged victims, who were recognized as Springer’s friends and family.

The incident reportedly involved multiple separate crime scenes in the area.

Springer reportedly shot at one of the victims who was sitting in their car and injured the others by attacking them with a bat.

The investigation led deputies to place Springer under arrest and transport him to the Penobscot County Jail, where he faces charges of attempted murder (Class A), aggravated reckless conduct, and aggravated assault, with more charges expected to follow.

The investigation is ongoing, and the Sheriff’s Department has not released any information on a suspected motive behind the alleged rampage.
