“We mourn the passing of Rep. Kathy Javner, who was serving her fourth term representing House District 29 and as Ranking Member of the 132nd Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Health and Human Services,” said the Maine House Republicans.
“A faithful servant, Kathy reflected Christ’s love through humility, hard work, and compassion. Rooted in Maine values and shaped by years of cross-cultural service and teaching, she carried a quiet strength and generous heart into her family life and public service. We thank God for her witness and legacy, and pray His peace and comfort over her family and all who loved her. ‘Well done, good and faithful servant,'” they added.
Javner was serving her fourth term in the legislature and served on the Health and Human Services Committee when she passed away.
During her time in the legislature, she worked on multiple pieces of pro-life legislation, including sponsoring a bill aimed at ending taxpayer funding for abortion.
“Public funding of abortion compels taxpayers to support a procedure that many believe ends innocent human life,” she said in March while presenting her bill.
Javner is survived by her husband, three children, and two grandchildren.
Her death drew numerous messages of condolence, including from House Speaker Ryan Fecteau (D-Biddeford).
“I am deeply saddened to learn Rep. Kathy Javner (R-Chester) passed away, following a long battle with cancer. Kathy was serving her final term in the legislature. I feel blessed to have known Kathy since she was first elected in 2018. Her fellow lawmakers saw her take on cancer with strength and resolve. She showed up and gave her all to representing the residents of District 29,” he said.
“My heart goes out to her husband Chris, her children Christopher, Sahara, and Katahdin, and all who knew and loved her. Rest easy, Kathy,” he added.
