At approximately 1:08 a.m., a deputy in a marked sheriff’s cruiser was conducting routine stationary traffic enforcement on West Gray Road in Gray when he saw what appeared to be muzzle flashes and heard what he believed to be gunfire.
He determined that the gunfire was allegedly coming from a passing vehicle and took action.
The deputy then allegedly witnessed another volley of gunfire, and he, along with other deputies who responded, conducted a high-risk traffic stop.
Deputies ordered the vehicle’s occupants to exit, and the five occupants reportedly complied without further incident.
The five were detained during an investigation.
Law enforcement conducted interviews with the five occupants and found that Jacob Murray, 26, of Scarborough, and Austin Teras, 23, of Gray, had allegedly been firing handguns from the moving vehicle.
A search of the vehicle allegedly revealed two handguns, spent shell casings, and five handgun magazines.
Investigators believed that there were no specific targets for the gunfire and that the other occupants of the car were not involved in the shooting.
Murray and Teras were arrested and charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and transported to the Cumberland County Jail.
