Police initially arrested the suspect, Daniel Barnes, 38, who is homeless, while investigating reports of drug-related activities at an unspecified hotel.
During the investigation, police allegedly seized approximately 10 grams of cocaine and charged Barnes with felony drug possession and violation of conditions of release.
At the time of his arrest, Barnes was out on bail following a prior, unrelated felony drug trafficking arrest and was on probation after a felony domestic violence criminal threatening arrest.
The arrest was carried out by the Rockland Police Department’s new Proactive Crime Interdiction Officer (PCIO), who is dedicated to addressing areas known to be involved in burglary, drug trafficking, and other crimes.
Following Barnes’ arrest, he had to be released into an unspecified medical facility for treatment, and he allegedly fled from that medical center. It is unclear how long he has been on the run.
On Tuesday, the police requested the public’s assistance in locating Barnes.
