Private Plane Crashes onto Frozen Otisfield Lake

A private plane crashed onto the frozen Thompson Lake in Otisfield on Friday, prompting an investigation from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

At approximately 4:38 p.m., the Oxford County Radio Communication Center received an emergency call reporting an aircraft emergency in the area of Thompson Lake.

The Oxford County Sheriff’s Department and other emergency services responded to the area.

Upon arrival, responders traveled out onto the frozen lake and made contact with the pilot of a private plane that was lying upside down on the ice.

The pilot explained that his plane overturned in the lake while he was attempting to make an emergency landing due to an unspecified mechanical issue.

The pilot was not injured in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing and has been handed over to the FAA.
