ELLWORTH, Maine — A 28-year-old Lamoine woman was arrested Thursday, March 12, 2026, after agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s Downeast Drug Task Force, based in Ellsworth, conducted surveillance outside a local business and observed what they described as activity consistent with drug trafficking.
According to an MDEA press release, agents, with assistance from the Ellsworth Police Department, conducted a motor vehicle stop on Bayside Road in Ellsworth.
The woman, identified as Gabrielle Battis, was charged with Class A aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs and violation of conditions of release.
At the time of the traffic stop, Battis was on pre-conviction bail following her June 2, 2025 arrest for Class B unlawful trafficking in fentanyl. Officers with the Ellsworth Police Department and MDEA agents searched the vehicle pursuant to the conditions of her release.
Authorities said the search resulted in the seizure of 10 grams gross weight of fentanyl, 2 grams gross weight of methamphetamine, 1 gram gross weight of cocaine base, 0.8 grams gross weight of cocaine hydrochloride, and $2,872 in suspected drug proceeds.
MDEA said the aggravated charge was based on the weight of fentanyl seized.
Battis was transported to the Hancock County Jail without incident. No bail was set. A booking photo is available through the Hancock County Jail.
Agents were assisted in the investigation by the Ellsworth Police Department.
In its release, the MDEA said it remains committed to working with federal, state, county, and local law enforcement partners to identify and disrupt drug trafficking organizations attempting to distribute illicit drugs in Maine.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The release also noted that anyone suffering from substance use disorder can call 211 or text their ZIP code to 898-211 for a list of available resources. Anyone with information about this investigation or the illegal sale of drugs in their community is urged to contact the nearest Maine Drug Enforcement office, text MDEA to TIP411 (847411), or call the MDEA tip line at 1-800-452-6457.
