The Penobscot Sheriff’s Department arrested a Plymouth felon on Sunday after he was allegedly found in possession of a firearm during a child welfare check.

At approximately 8:00 a.m., the Sheriff’s Department received a report of possible child abuse at a Plymouth residence.

Deputies responded to the residence to investigate and developed a suspicion that one of the people involved in the incident, Lardarrias Williams, 30, originally of Florida, was in possession of a firearm.

Further investigation revealed that Williams was a felon following a Florida conviction on a domestic violence assault charge and therefore prohibited from possessing a firearm.

After the initial investigation, deputies applied for and obtained a search warrant for the residence, both to check on the well-being of the children in the home and to search for firearms.

Law enforcement allegedly discovered a handgun along with “assorted ammunition” during the warrant execution.

As a result of the search, deputies arrested Williams on a charge of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and transported him to the Penobscot County Jail, where he remains as of Monday morning.

Personnel from the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) examined the children and determined that they could safely remain at the residence for the night.

The case remains ongoing, and the DHHS and Sheriff’s Department are still working to ensure the safety of the children involved.
