An Iran-linked hacker group has claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on a medical tech company whose clients include many Maine physicians.
The attack appears to be the first significant instance of Iran’s hacking an American company since the start of the war between the countries, NBC News reports.
The company targeted, Stryker Health, supplies robotic-assisted surgery equipment, much of it in use across Maine.
Stryker, headquartered in Michigan, produces a range of medical equipment and technology.
The company’s Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery apparatus, which several Maine surgeons use, creates 3D-modeled knee and hip replacements.
The technology helps orthopedic specialists pinpoint implant-positioning accuracy.
