LEWISTON, Maine — Elise Bergeron, a 25-year-old resident of Lewiston, is facing a murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Maliyah Powell.

According to authorities, the shooting occurred at approximately 1:26 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026, on Union Street in Lewiston. Officials report the incident followed a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical fight.

Bergeron was arrested on the day of the shooting and charged with murder. On March 23, 2026, an Androscoggin County judge ordered that she be held without bail.

If convicted, Bergeron could face a prison sentence ranging from 25 years to life.

Her next scheduled court hearing is set for April 10, 2026.

The investigation is being led by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South, with assistance from the Lewiston Police Department.
