Ali Mohammed Ali Abdullah, 18, one of the four “British” hikers arrested earlier this month for illegally crossing the Canadian border, pleaded guilty to entering the U.S. without inspection.

On April 3, Abdullah, along with Hameed Mohammed Nagi, Ibrahim Ayyub Khan, and Mohammed Sultan Saleh, crossed the Canadian border into Franklin County.

They were then spotted by workers walking on the Golden Road, a private logging road.

The workers informed Border Patrol, who located the four men.

After the apprehension, Border Patrol agents found that the men had GoPro footage and internet search history showing that they allegedly entered the country illegally intentionally.

Initially, the suspects claimed that they had been hiking and crossed the border accidentally.

Abdullah had previously been in the U.S. and requested a visa extension in March 2025, but his application was denied.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine, Abdullah intended to work in the U.S. illegally.

He was sentenced to time served, though he is likely to be deported back to the United Kingdom, where he holds citizenship.
