McLoons Lobster Shack on Spruce Head began literally as nothing but a shack.
It was used as a wholesale lobster-buying station for McLoons Lobster on Spruce Head, an island in South Thomaston just east of Rockland.
โBut in 2012 – at the suggestion of former wharf manager Bob Woodbury – Bree Birns, one of the family members behind the wholesale business, transformed the empty shack into a small, centrally located spot for locals, boaters, and travelers to pick up fresh, expertly made lobster rolls,โ says Sarah Blumert of Mashed.com.
โWhen they looked for the best lobster roll in Maine, they landed on a real standout,โ says I95rocks.comโs Arlen Jameson, aka the โKid.โ
โIf you’re hankering for a small, family-owned spot where you can get an authentic Maine lobster roll (as well as plenty of other seafood and non-seafood offerings) in a classic, casual setting, then McLoons Lobster Shack is the place to go,โ Blumert says.
