UPDATED: Bad Days for Maine Democrats as National Democrat DCCC Appears to End Fundraising for Dunlap

UPDATE: After the publication of this article, Dunlap’s campaign responded to The Maine Wire and said that the DCCC had fixed the fundraising link, which The Maine Wire confirmed.

As Maine Democrats contend with the fallout from the new rape allegation made against Graham Platner, they are facing an entirely different issue in the Second Congressional District (CD2) race, as a prominent national Democratic PAC is apparently not helping Democratic nominee Matt Dunlap’s fundraising efforts.

The National Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) does not appear to be supporting Dunlap’s fundraising efforts, despite endorsing him after his upset primary victory following a ranked-choice voting win over their preferred candidate, state Sen. Joe Baldacci (D-Penobscot).

Axios reporter Andrew Solender revealed that the DCCC fundraising link for Dunlap’s campaign returns an error message from ActBlue, a left-wing donor platform.

Currently the fundraising links for #ME02 (where progressive Matt Dunlap defeated DCCC-backed Joe Baldacci) and #CO08 (where Manny Rutinel defeated centrist Shannon Bird) give you this error message: https://t.co/g8gGK4zeTy https://t.co/Yt5qsxhj0L pic.twitter.com/TmpMI5Bojo

Maine’s CD2 does appear among the DCCC’s list of districts in play for the 2026 midterms, but the “chip-in” button does not actually allow anyone to donate to Dunlap’s campaign.

Dunlap has struggled to garner support from national-level Democrats since the DCCC endorsed Sen. Baldacci during the primary and added him to their Red to Blue fundraising initiative aimed at allocating resources to races the DCCC believed Democrats could win.

After a conspicuous delay in their endorsement of Dunlap following his primary win, they still have not added him to the Red to Blue initiative.

In addition to his struggles with national Democrats, Dunlap must also work to avoid the fallout from Platner’s downfall, after previously endorsing him and campaigning alongside him.

Dunlap has since called for Platner to step out of the race following Monday’s Politico story detailing rape allegations against the candidate.

The Maine Wire reached out to Dunlap for comment on the DCCC’s fundraising page, but he did not immediately respond.
