On July 2, an officer responded to reports of disorderly behavior in downtown Damariscotta.
During the investigation, the suspect, identified as Byrlynne Ellis, 48, of Damariscotta, allegedly became aggressive and actively resisted arrest.
She allegedly attacked the officer as he attempted to take her into custody and, during the fight, attempted to take his holstered firearm.
The officer deployed a taser, but it was ineffective.
He then deployed pepper spray, but the struggle continued until the arrival of Detective Matthew Ryan of the Lincoln Sheriff’s Department, who assisted the officer in arresting Ellis.
The officer sustained minor injuries during the altercation, but the suspect was uninjured.
Ellis was transported to the Two Bridges Regional Jail and was charged with assault on a police officer, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, and disorderly conduct.
Ellis was previously convicted last year on charges of disorderly conduct, violating conditions of release, and using physical force to resist arrest.
