The Cumberland Sheriff’s Department arrested a Raymond man on Saturday after he allegedly drunkenly fired a handgun in his home before fleeing and ramming a police cruiser.
At approximately 6:48 p.m., deputies responded to reports of shots fired at 17 Cornerstone Road in Raymond.
The caller reported that Aaron Thompson, 44, of Raymond, drunkenly fired off two rounds from his handgun inside the residence.
While deputies were responding to the incident, the caller reported that the suspect fled in a maroon Nissan Murano.
Upon arrival, deputies quickly located the vehicle traveling on Mountain Road.
A deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the driver allegedly continued traveling toward Edwards Road.
He then allegedly ran the stop sign at Mountain Road and Edwards Road.
While continuing to flee, Thompson allegedly rammed into the front driver’s side of a marked Cumberland County patrol sergeant’s cruiser, which was responding with its emergency lights active.
The cruiser was disabled by the crash and later towed away.
The suspect stopped a short distance from the crash, and Thompson was arrested without further incident following a high-risk stop.
Thompson was transported to the Cumberland County Jail and charged with two counts of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, aggravated criminal mischief, failure to stop for law enforcement, driving to endanger, operating under the influence, and violating conditions of release.
He does not currently appear in Cumberland County Jail records.
