At approximately 12:48 a.m., the Washington County Sheriff’s Department notified the Maine State Police of a fatal crash on Charlotte Road.
The victim was identified as Robert Boggia Jr. of Whiting and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash and learned that Boggia had been at a Calais bar prior to his death.
He allegedly threatened bar patrons with a firearm before fleeing prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
He was then spotted on Route 1 in Calais in a red Corvette allegedly traveling at an estimated 150 miles per hour.
The Baileyville Police Department attempted to catch up with Boggia but failed to stop him.
A Washington County sheriff’s deputy was on Charlotte Road when he spotted Boggia’s vehicle speeding past him.
The deputy began pursuit but was also unable to catch Boggia until he came upon the crash site.
Boggia had been ejected from the vehicle, and his body was found a significant distance from the wreck.
Speed is believed to be the largest contributor to the crash, and an investigation into the events leading up to the incident remains ongoing.
A toxicology report will be conducted on Boggia’s body.
Boggia has a lengthy history of arrests on charges including gross sexual assault, aggravated trafficking in drugs, possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, theft, domestic violence assault, domestic violence terrorizing, and obstructing the report of a crime.
In 2018, he was arrested after his home was raided by a Maine State Police tactical team.
He was also charged in 2018 after he was accused of setting a woman’s house in Blue Hill on fire in 2013 and of attempting to convince another inmate at the Washington County Jail to murder the homeowner upon his release.

Good riddance .
Boo Hoo.
Good, one less moron on the planet
Sorry about the damage to the Corvette.
I used to drive Charlotte Road a lot, I can’t imagine doing 70 on it, yet alone 150.
Why is a guy with a record like that not put in jail and throw away the key? He could have killed someone the way he was driving.
Play stupid games…. His death is the fault of society. Society should have locked him up sooner than this by the record.
Good another scumbag wont be down for breakfast.
why wasn’t he already a guest of the state?
How much do you have to do to go to prison now?
