Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Monday that the House of Representatives will launch an impeachment inquiry into President Biden’s Attorney General (AG) Merrick Garland by July 6.

The impeachment inquiry against Garland will be launched in relation to allegations from IRS whistleblowers that the Biden Justice Department stymied an investigation into Hunter Biden’s alleged tax violations.

On Sunday the House Speaker tweeted that David Weiss, the U.S. Attorney in charge of prosecuting Hunter Biden in Delaware, “must provide answers to the House Judiciary committee.”

IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley testified to the House Ways and Means Committee that Weiss was denied special counsel authority from the Justice Department after the U.S. Attorney for Washington D.C. Matthew Graves did not allow charges to be filed against Hunter Biden in Washington D.C.

Weiss allegedly told Shapley in 2022 that he was “not the deciding official on whether charges are filed.”

“We need to get to the facts, and that includes reconciling these clear disparities,” McCarthy said in relation to Shapley’s whistleblower testimony.

“If the whistleblowers’ allegations are true, this will be a significant part of a larger impeachment inquiry into Merrick Garland’s weaponization of DOJ,” he said.

“These are IRS long-term workers who’ve been through it, and watched the abuse of power of how Hunter Biden was treated,” McCarthy said on Fox News Monday morning.

“We’re going to follow this investigation wherever the information takes us, and all the information you’re getting is all the work we’ve been doing since the very day we got in,” he said.

“The country needs to know so it never happens again,” he added. “They should not use government to cover up anything they’ve done.”

Garland denied the explosive allegations during an unrelated press conference Saturday.

“As I said at the outset, Mr. Weiss, who was appointed by President Trump as the U.S. Attorney in Delaware and assigned this matter during a previous administration, would be permitted to continue his investigation and to make a decision to prosecute any way in which he wanted to and in any district in which he wanted to,” Garland said.
