“States have every right to defend their sovereignty, and we are pleased to increase our support to Texas as the Lone Star State works to stop the invasion across the border,” said Gov. DeSantis.
Florida’s pledge comes after Gov. Greg Abbot (R-Texas) announced that Texas would defy the federal government’s order that they cease efforts to defend their southern border from the unprecedented number of illegal immigrants entering the state in recent months.
Texas issued a statement last month outlining its constitutional right to defend itself from foreign invasion after the Supreme Court ruled that the Federal Government could destroy fortifications on the Texas border.
All Republican governors, except Gov. Phil Scott (R-Vermont), along with Frmr. President Donald Trump have come out in support of Texas’ fight to defend its border.
The issue has become more contentious as some Democrats have called for President Joe Biden to forcibly seize control of the Texas National Guard, and force them to stop fortifying their border.
DeSantis’ deployment of troops will join other, non-military officials from Florida who were already sent to assist Texas.
The Texas border has become a losing issue for President Biden, with poll numbers from Rasmussen showing that 69 percent of American voters support Texas, and only 27 percent oppose its efforts.
