A Portland High School student brought a BB gun to school Thursday morning, prompting a response from police, according to the Portland Police Department.

Portland Police spokesperson Brad Nadeau confirmed that on the morning of Thursday, March 14, police responded to Portland High School for a report of a student with a gun.

Nadeau said that the student was in possession of a BB gun — a type of air gun that shoots metallic spherical projectiles similar to bearing balls.

Nadeau did not provide any additional details regarding the incident.

Portland High School Sheila Jepson sent a letter to school families on Thursday describing the incident and the school’s response.

“When school staff became aware that a student might have drugs in their possession, school administrators searched the student’s backpack,” Jepson wrote. “In the bag, they recovered what they believed to be a gun – later determined to be a BB gun.”

“Portland Police were contacted immediately and both the student and the weapon remained in control of school administrators until police arrived at the building,” Jepson continued.

“Student and staff safety is our first priority. We are taking appropriate steps to hold students accountable and to ensure everyone’s safety,” she wrote. “We continue to encourage everyone in our community to speak up if they see or hear something concerning.”

Teachers and liberal parents lost control of their bowels and needed to change their draws, some 2 or 3 times after the incident. The school will be offering counseling for staff, students, and parents who were traumatized by even saying the work gun.

I guess the drugs were not a big deal, but BB gun pistol was absolutely terrifying. Why not call the police for the drugs? I guess student safety dies not include drugs?
