A Bangor man has been sentenced to three years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition after an investigation found that he discharged a handgun in a residential area.

Toman Caudill, 31, of Bangor, was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock to 36 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

Caudill had pleaded guilty to the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition on Jan. 17, 2024.

According to court records, in September 2023, Bangor Police responded to a report that a male subject had fired a handgun in a residential area.

Upon arrival, a bystander directed officers to Caudill, who was arrested after police found a box of 9mm ammunition in his backpack, court records state.

A subsequent investigation found that Caudill had fired a Ruger 9mm pistol and then handed the firearm to his fiancée as the Bangor Police officers approached, according to the Maine U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The Ruger 9mm pistol and ammunition from Caudill’s backpack were both recovered and seized.

Caudill, who is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition due to multiple prior felony convictions, stated that he had fired the handgun due to an altercation with another male, federal prosecutors said.

The Bangor Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case.

Glad they caught him and sentenced him before a murder took place with an ILLEGAL GUN.

I bet his girlfriend purchased the gun for him. Let’s see if someone in the Maine legislature can dream up another stupid, useless gun law because of this incident. Rachel Talbot Ross, (the convicted shoplifter), we’re counting on you. Ann Carney? Any democrats????
