A New York woman pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court in Portland to bank fraud, aggravated identity theft and false use of a passport, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine.

In court records, federal prosecutors alleged that in May 2023, 57-year-old Lisa Campos of New York attempted to make withdrawals from the joint credit union account of two victims by using a fake U.S. passport card as identification at several branch locations in southern Maine.

Campos was successful in withdrawing $8,000 from one credit union branch in two separate transactions, but was unable to make successful withdrawals in two subsequent attempts at other branch locations.

Upon leaving the third branch location, Campos was located by Freeport Police and provided officers with the purported passport card and a debit card, both in the name of one of the victims, according to prosecutors.

On the bank fraud charge, Campos faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million.

For false use of a passport, Campos could get a maximum 10 years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine, and for the aggravated identity theft charge up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service investigated the case with assistance from the Sanford, Topsham, and Freeport police departments.

What does the lack of a photo of Miss Campos indicate? If conviced and sentenced to forty years of three hots and a cot, can she be shipped by back to NY so the tax payers there can pay for her forty years of incarceration.
