A new report from Martina Boguslavets, a chairwoman for the Ukrainian anti-corruption group Mezha, revealed that millions of dollars meant to fund the fortification of the Kharkov province in Ukraine were stolen by officials.
“Multi-million contracts for the construction of fortification structures, for which a total of 7 billion hryvnias [roughly $176 million] was spent, were [transferred] by the Kharkov Regional State Administration to dummy companies,” said Bougslavets.
In the report, published on the pro-Ukrainian news outlet Ukrainska Pravda, Boguslavets explained that local officials had been embezzling millions meant to fortify the province against Russian forces.
The Kharkov region has been the subject of a recent Russian push, which has allowed Russian forces to re-take territory there.
The embezzled money was funneled into newly formed shell companies, which, she believes, officials registered in the names of unknowing Ukrainians, while pocketing the money from those contracts themselves.
The alleged CEO’s of the newly formed shell businesses were various disreputable Ukrainians with histories of petty crimes and domestic violence, according to the report.
One such “businessman” Chaus Igor, had a criminal record which included stealing a bottle of Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey.
While Igor was stealing American whiskey, officials were stealing from American taxpayers by using defense funds to enrich themselves, as Americans send billions to prop up Ukraine’s military and economy.
This revelation comes shortly after President Joe Biden signed more than $60 billion worth of taxpayer funds over to Ukraine as part of a massive foreign aid package.
Despite numerous reports of Ukrainian officials embezzling funds, Sen. Angus King (I-Maine), a top supporter of appropriating billions of taxpayer dollars for foreign wars, has consistently denied that any of the money that has been sent to Ukraine has been mishandled.

“I know of no such allegations,” said Sen. King, when questioned n the corruption by The Maine Wire, “The data that I’ve seen is that [the money has] been very carefully handled, and most of the money for Ukraine is going into the U.S. economy.”
