Study Finds Transgender Surgeries Dramatically Increase the Risk of Suicide

Transgender activists commonly push for transgender procedures and drugs with claims that they are life-saving, and argue that if laws preventing them go into effect, trans-identifying people will be at a heightened rate of suicide.

A new study conducted by the University of Texas Medical Branch has revealed that sex-change surgeries increase the risk of suicide by more than 12 times.

“Individuals who underwent gender-affirming surgery had a 12.12-fold higher suicide attempt risk than those who did not,” said the study.

The study is among the first — and most exhaustive — to provide actual analysis of the claim frequently advanced by advocates for sex-change surgeries that the procedures prevent gender dysphoric individuals from committing suicide.

The researchers conducted the study by examining anonymous data about patients with emergency hospital visits at 56 healthcare organizations, from 2003-2023, including data on millions of patients.

The researchers then separated the data into multiple control groups, including people with emergency hospital visits, but no transgender surgeries, and people with emergency visits, who have not undergone transgender surgeries, but have had sterilizing procedures such as vasectomies or tubal ligation.

They then compared that data to the emergency visit data for people with transgender surgeries, and examined the data for suicide attempts, deaths, and other signs of suicidal ideation such as self-harm.

The results showed that people who had undergone transgender surgeries had a 12.12 times higher risk of suicide attempts than patients who had not undergone the surgeries.

Interestingly, the study also found that people who had undergone voluntary sterilization were at a significantly higher risk of suicide than those who hadn’t, but were still at a significantly lower risk than transgender patients.

The transgender patients were still at a five times higher risk of suicide than those who underwent voluntary sterilization.

The study did not draw any conclusions about the heightened suicide attempt rate among those who underwent voluntary sterilization, but did make a recommendation on transgender patients.

The researchers concluded that the heightened suicide risk among transgender patients suggests a need for more psychiatric aid for people undergoing the surgeries. That is, more mental health services as opposed to surgical and hormonal interventions.

They did not, however, suggest that doctors should stop preforming elective sex-change surgeries, despite the heightened risk of suicide.

Transgender activists commonly push for transgender procedures and drugs with claims that they are life-saving, and argue that if laws preventing them go into effect, trans-identifying people will be at a heightened rate of suicide.

The Texas study, however, shows that transgender surgeries dramatically increase suicide risks, rather than diminishing them.

Now that should make the Maine Department of Education happy, no wonder they will not tell the parents what they are doing to the kids. There are no good teachers willing to stand up and protect children from these predators that are in your schools.

Transgender mutilation; roundly endorsed by the Maine “education” establishment and the legions of corpulent, post-menopausal, half-witted busybodies infesting this legislature

So that’s a BS study comparing people who had surgery to the general population. It’s an apples-to-oranges comparison. There are no studies I’m aware of comparing trans people who have had surgery vs trans people who have not.

I was about to post what Dianne has already pointed out. There should have been a control group of trans patients who have not had gender surgery. I wouldn’t have judged it to be a flawed study until having reviewed it. It would be helpful to have publication citation included with any articles on scientific papers for those who prefer to dig deeper. Of significance is far from surgery are these patients. Short and long term outcomes can be divergent.

…again, Democrats create a dilemma aiding and abetting mental illness. This trans crap has been pushed in schools and society, ad hominem, for the last 10 years! THERE IS NO PANDEMIC OF CONFUSED CHILDREN! Only confused teaching of it. It’s NOT ok to put these children in situations, mentally, they are not prepared for. Let them discover who they are, both sexually and mentally, when it occurs NATURALLY! These conversations were unneeded until confused mentally ill teachers started pushing this crap in schools!

    Which is it?

“BOSTON, April 28, 2021—A new study published today in JAMA Surgery found that gender-affirming surgery is associated with improved mental health outcomes among transgender people. The study was authored by researchers at Harvard Medical School, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, The Fenway Institute at Fenway Health, and the Department of Psychiatry, Massachusetts General Hospital. It is the first large-scale, controlled study to demonstrate an association between gender-affirming surgery and improved mental health outcomes and adds important new knowledge to the field as there is little high-quality evidence regarding the mental health effects of gender-affirming surgery.”

If everything is great, and this actually benefits the child, why do schools go to such lengths to hide the process from parents?

The left is an unabashed suicide cult
Rate of suicide attempts for those receiving gender destroying surgery is over %50

  12. Right this ship on May 19, 2024 7:35 AM

Just pass a bill that makes facilities that perform these mutilations responsible for damages to and caused by these confused people. The problem will solve its self.

  13. Gardiner Schneider on May 20, 2024 7:24 AM

With the increased suicide rate, this problem may be self-limiting.
