‘traumatic online content’: Angus King says Minimum Age for Social Media Should Be 13

A bipartisan bill introduced by U.S. Senator from Maine Angus King (I) would set a minimum age of 13 to use social media platforms.

The “Kids Off Social Media Act” would also prevent social media companies from pushing algorithmically-targeted content to social media users under the age of 17.

“America’s youth should be protected from the harmful impacts of social media and from traumatic online content during their most formative years,” Sen. King said in a Monday press release. “The bipartisan Kids off Social Media Act would establish reasonable guardrails and set a minimum age for users of social media to protect our children from tech companies exploiting and manipulating the youngest Americans.”

“It would also require schools to block and filter social media access on federally funded Internet networks,” King said. “Our children and grandchildren deserve to grow up without the damaging risks of social media and this legislation will take meaningful steps to protecting our youth from these impacts.”

Other measures in the “Kids Off Social Media Act” would grant the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and state attorneys general to enforce the restrictions in the bill, as well as requiring federally funded schools to block and filter social media platforms on their networks.

King’s bill would go further than a similar bill signed into law by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in March that prohibits minors under 14 years old in Florida from having social media accounts.

Last year the U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory calling for policies to set and enforce minimum age requirements for social media usage, citing various potential negative mental health impacts on children and adolescents from increased social media usage.

Sen. King was joined in sponsoring the legislation by Sens. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Peter Welch (D-Vt.), Ted Budd (R-NC), John Fetterman (D-Penn.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Ted Budd (R-N.C.), and Katie Britt (R-Ala.).

This isn’t the first time King has taken an interest in keeping people off social media.

In his 2018 re-election bid, King’s campaign leaned on Facebook and Twitter to ban — in some cases permanently — social media users who were critical of the junior senator.

F ing retire you feckless geriatric, King. Collins too!

Isn’t King the guy who pushed laptops starting in the 7th grade while he was governor? Besides this is the parents choice not governments. I would be much happier to see him do something useful like secure the border, get the transgender grooming out of our schools.

King finally wakes up and makes meaningless blather deigned to show he’s “on the job protecting our kids”. Is there an election coming up?

Oops! Should be “designed ” vs “deigned”.

It is truly scary to think that Maine elected this blithering idiot with no spine to represent one of the founding 13 colonies. King is so incompetent that he couldn’t find his own ass if he bent over and used both hands. He can’t seem to find anything worth fighting for in the quest to rein in the democrat’s march to destroy America so he picks the internet, what a loser.

Well A. King what are you doing about this It is a Federal Boarder problem.

King-just another big gov’t blowhard lefty. Hey Angus, I have an idea. How about we cut the fed gov’t in half, give that money back to the people so they can have families. The dad can go to work while the mom works her ass off taking care of the kids and managing the homestead. Maybe even homeschool those kids to keep them out of the public indoctrination centers(otherwise known as public schools). Maybe even, dare I say it, teach them some religion. Oops, I forgot. You always want the big gov solution. More is better you say.

How does king feel about kids watching free porn?

The truth is the younger generation isn’t beholden to the tribal hebrew deity and his mass murdering land grabbing disciples. Social media for all of its faults allows the (mostly) free exchange of information that our dear leaders would love to suppress. The older generation of goyim is brainwashed to take the knee to their chosen master race but thankfully the younger generation is seeing through that global domination bs.
